The Old City

When viewed from the sea, Gallipoli’s white skyline reveals itself in all of its oriental beauty, resembling a village of the Cyclades islands. Gallipoli, the “beautiful city”, is definitely one of the most interesting areas around Salento in terms of nature. In fact, this area is composed of a marsh that hosts migratory birds, a pine grove and a section of scrubland where Pugliese Heather and some Orchid species grow.Don’t miss to visit the baroque cathedral dedicated to Saint Agatha and the Hellenistic fountain close to the bridge, rich in bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Greek mythology, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Canneto.

The Sandy Shores

The windy sea makes it possible to practice water sports so much so that the sea in front of Gallipoli is the site of international sailing races. Beach lovers can enjoy the fine sand of Lido San Giovanni, two kilometres south of the town, characterised by a gently sloping sea floor, and thus particularly suited for families and children. At Le Conchiglie beach to the north it is possible to go spear fishing and water-skiing.

Gallipoli Bay is enclosed to the south by Pizzo Point, a splendid sandy beach characterised by crystal clear sea and interesting flora, with a pine grove that arrives right onto the beach.
